Helping in our Community
We believe in serving our community by giving back to those who need it most. Working as a team, supporting worthy causes and making a difference in the lives of others, gives us greater insight into ourselves and develops a greater appreciation for the things we have.
We take the lead from our students in choosing service projects that serve the community and support causes of social justice. We believe this enhances learning beyond the classroom and empowers our students in making their community a better place, for all.
Operation Christmas Child
Preparing a shoebox for Operation Christmas Child is one of many ways that students at Leo Nickerson School show support for those in need. Boxes are prepared at home by participating students and returned to school to be collected by Emergency Services volunteers. Shoeboxes from this area are sent to developing countries in Central and South America. This is a great way to show children in developing countries that somewhere out in the world someone cares for them and wants them to have a Merry Christmas!
If you would like to participate in the Samaritan’s Purse OCC campaign, information and permission forms are home with students mid-October. For more information visit www.samaritanspurse.ca
